Cove Bay Water Treatment Plant and Reservoir

Bowen Island, British Columbia

This project involved the greenfield construction of a new water treatment plant and reservoir. A 3,000 m3 excavation was required to accommodate the building and 2,000 m3 reservoir. A 5,000 sq. ft. building will house the CUF water treatment technology. Extensive yard piping, process mechanical, electrical and structural concrete was used on this project.

Challenges
  • Involved significant collaboration with the design team to bring both the performance of the treatment plant and budgetary restrictions of the client together.
  • Construction on an island involves logistic challenges specifically in the coordination and lifting of major deliverables.
  • The schedule was accelerated due to major equipment delivery delays during COVID-19.
Additional Scope Items
  • Concrete foundations.
  • Process mechanical.
  • 2,000 m3 bolted steel reservoir.
  • Wood frame building construction using prefabricated wall panels.
  • Treatment equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Yard piping (large diameter DI 14”).
  • Tie ins to existing water system.
  • Disinfection and bac T testing of piping and reservoir.
  • Electrical and instrumentation.
