The City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) is planning to replace the St. Charles Sanitary Sewage Lift Station located at 255 St. Charles Street, in the Flour Mill area of the City. The facility will be fully replaced, and the discharge sewage will be re-routed via a proposed forcemain (500 mm in diameter) approximately 1.2 km to the east to the existing sewage rock tunnel. The existing lift station is located on the south side of St. Charles Street within a residential neighbourhood. The new facility will comprise a building with a single storey above ground and two storeys below grade (8.5 m in total below grade) for two thirds of building footprint. An 8.5 m deep wet well is to be connected to the basement.
